War on Terror

President Obama and former President George W. Bush one week ago at the September 11th, 2001, ten year memorial service in New York City.

Some have suggested that Obama was praying to himself in this photo while others have mused that Obama was simply bored at the tenth anniversary of the deaths of three thousand Americans.

I dunno. He could have just been feeling like the Maitre D’ in Ferris Bueller’s Day Off who couldn’t abide the fake Abe Froman, the Sausage King of Chicago, the type who gave old whats his name, Paul Shrugman, the heebie jeebies.

Perhaps Obama simply realized he was standing beside the Walrus and it really pissed him off.

“Oh! God! Oh” were the last recorded words of Kevin Cosgrove on September 11th, 2001 as the South Tower fell. Kevin Cosgrove,in his desperate and heart breaking 911 phone call mentioned that he, Doug Cherry and others were on the 105th floor of the South Tower when the plane hit.

I wrote about Kevin’s call back in 2006. The recording was played at the Moussaoui trial.

Ten years gone, and three very important elements are being left out of the September 11th Remembrance this morning in New York City. Mayor Bloomberg doesn’t want any representatives of religion at the remembrance of the tenth anniversary of the attacks of September 11th, 2001. There will be no firefighters, no police and no representatives of clergy present at the ceremony. In other words, no First Responders and no Last Responder.

No Comfort, no peace.

kevincosgrove.jpg

Kevin Cosgrove’s body was found in the rubble of the World Trade Center on September 22nd, 2001. He was buried at St. Patrick Catholic Cemetery in Huntington, New York. He left a widow and three children. He was 46 years old.

Imagine going to work on a Tuesday morning and everything suddenly turning to madness.

This could happen again in a world that forgets. When we forget to honor those who ran into the towers in an attempt to save the Kevin Cosgroves of the world something is terribly wrong. When we forget the shouts and prayers of grief that went up to heaven on that clear Tuesday morning we forget the monstrosity of the moment and how much in that moment we needed God.

When we forget the policemen, many of whom also laid down their lives to help their friends and neighbors on September 11th, we dishonor the civilization that emerged from the madness of the day.

When political correctness rules the mouths of men and women we become, again, the weak horse that enticed Osama bin Laden in the first place.

May we never forget all of those who perished on September 11th, 2001. May we never forget that we were attacked by those who are still scheming to kill us today. May we never forget that it is the very freedom that we cherish that they hate.

Let us not forget that we are Americans.

It’s still really hot in Arkansas. Fires are still burning. I had to go to the river to find a scene like the one above.

Which is the sky and which is the earth?

I needed to look on peaceful water after the news of this weekend. The horrible news that America’s best were taken down by the Taliban in Afghanistan.

Two of the Navy Seals came from Arkansas.

What made my soul bleed was the fact that in the initial press reports an “unnamed official” confirmed that those who were killed were from Seal Team 6 and the 160th Avn. Bde., which is the special ops aviation unit. This “unnamed official” asked not to be named because the families had not yet been notified. I could just imagine the agony the families were in knowing that one of their own was most likely killed. In this email to Instapundit John Lucas explains his disgust at the Obama administration official’s callous attitude toward the military families who were waiting for that knock at the door.

I ache for those families - the Mothers, the Fathers, the Wives, and the children. Life will never be the same.

“I do not know the dignity of their birth, but I do know the glory of their death,” General MacArthur said in his West Point address in 1962, speaking of the fallen American soldier. “They died unquestioning, uncomplaining, with faith in their hearts, and on their lips the hope that we would go on to victory. Always for them Duty, Honor, Country. Always their blood and sweat and tears as we sought the way and the truth and the light.”

“However horrible the incidents of war may be,” MacArthur went on to say, “the soldier who is called upon to offer and to give his life for his country, is the noblest development of mankind.”

Here is a link to help the families of the fallen.

Bad news all around. We’ve been attacked from without and from within. Our economy was downgraded this weekend which was not really surprising. Obama played the blame game today which was also not surprising given that the man either doesn’t have a clue how to lead or has planned this “change” all along.

riverreflections.jpg

America the Beautiful has been brought down low and how fortunate that Gov.Rick Perry was praying for her this weekend. We need bold leaders who are not afraid to stand up for their beliefs and we need prayer.

Especially prayers for the families of our valiant fallen heroes.

There’s always lots on the menu here at The Wide Awake Cafe. Here’s what’s on the grill today:

Lose a War Soup: A satisfying, filling, tasty, treat.

Cut and Run Soup: a large bowl filled with lots of factual, satisfying lumps of truth.

For those who have a taste for something really spicy try this.

Have some beer with this dish.

Obama Gaffe Flambee: A delicious and gutsy take on another goof of the President. Really could cause one to lose one’s appetite.

An odd tasting Yogurt which I myself would never eat but am compelled to serve.

It may be crying time but it’s not quitting time. Try it with some lasagna with lots of cheese.

Boehner Ragout Stew: Putting his foot down. With a side of crostini.

Served with a merlot.

sabbyatheadoftable.jpg

Never mind the cat on the table. If you choose to sup at The Wide Awake Cafe the sight of cats on the table will not result in any extra charge.

Eggs on faces of the lame stream media. (over easy, scrambled, or coddled)

Some of you may prefer fries but Michelle says you should eat your vegetables.

Vegetables are good for you and the media has been helpful to Obama, Michelle says. Eat some Beets.

We serve pizza here but today it is really snarky pizza. Be warned.

Arugula Salad with a drizzle of oil and vinegar.

Being always wakeful I offer the strongest coffee with cream.

This establishment serves good strong tea with lemon, milk, and hot toasted muffins.

Obama’s Government Chops: So good, you’ll want a shovel instead of a spoon.

White House Attack against Issa causes Acid Reflux. Have a chocolate chip cookie and milk.

For the unschooled palates: Try some jello with jelly beans.

More food for the kiddies. Macaroni and cheese to the Max.

We have lots of desserts on the menu: (if you don’t choose to desert the table)

First, the pies:

Pecan Pie, the kind made by your Southern grandmother, who shelled the pecans while sitting on the porch swing, telling you the story of the Tree of Life.

Lemon Meringue Pie, created lovingly with just the right amount of lemon and sugar, and topped with the best, lightest and highest meringue ever produced, almost high enough to reach Alaska, or, even - Russia.

Have a really big piece of Kentucky Derby Pie. A really big piece before time runs out. Time is running out, you know.

Peaches and cream.

A Feast for the eyes: accompanied by virtual chocolate.

A final toast to Peter Falk, a really good man. Peter starred in so many memorable films and of course there is his wonderful Columbo series but I will never forget him in his role as the Grandfather in The Princess Bride.

Sunday night when I heard that Usama Bin Laden had been killed I remembered President Bush’s words after September 11, 2001: “We will not tire. We will not falter. We will not fail.”

When our goldfish died we flushed them down the toilet.

So, after Usama Bin Laden was taken down in his million dollar compound by Navy SEALs his body was tossed in the sea.

Buh Bye, you Monster. You had ten years to run and hide and you spent your last few moments of life hiding behind a woman.

Isn’t that just special.

You filthy, bloody, jihadist cretin. You deserved much worse than what you and your evil minions did to three thousand innocent citizens on September 11th, 2001, you disgusting piece of satanic, flesh.

Oh, sorry. Eaten by sharks by now, you piece of dead flesh.

May your soul suffer eternal damnation.

And, thanks, President Obama. Well done. Letting the military kill people and break things can be cool and may even help you get re-elected.

But, not if I have anything to do with it.

September 11th, 2001 our American world changed. It’s still changing, but one wonders if it is for the better.

President Bush became a war-time President from September 11th on for his entire eight years at the helm. He led our war efforts despite the opposition of the Democrats, the judiciary, and the media. When he was reelected in 2004 he still had most of the American people’s support.

Fast forward a few years and multiple hits in the media the American support for President Bush and his war effort was waning.

Then, came the surge which brought more opposition in Congress but the president persevered, along with the support of John McCain and the brilliant leadership of General David Petraeus. As the 2008 election was looming the success of the surge was becoming obvious.

But the damage had been done and the American electorate believed the snake oil that Barrack Obama was selling.

Our Global War on Terror became an overseas contingency operation and the phrase caused many misgivings, to say the least.

Robert Spencer at Jihad Watch wrote the following…

And so now we are engaged in a great Overseas Contingency Operation, testing whether that nation or any nation so conceived and so dedicated can long endure. And be assured: if the Overseas Contingency Operatives succeed in pulling off another Contingency Operation on American soil on the scale of 9/11, or more than one, we will indeed be sorely tested — and utterly unprepared to meet the multifaceted cultural, military, political, and spiritual challenge the enemy presents.”

Following the name change came the odd spell cast on Homeland Security which seemed to be sleepwalking while Jihadist attacks were attempted (with some carried out successfully) on our own soil.

Barrack Obama’s support for the building of the Cordoba Mosque in the shadows of Ground Zero bodes ill for our country.

I will never forget September 11th, 2001, but remembering is not enough.

As Ed Morrissey writes at Hot Air,

So what do we do now? What do the next nine years look like from this vantage point? Terrorism has ceased being the top priority of Americans, who are more worried now about the economy and jobs — as it should be. We should go about our business, but with the clarity that while we don’t want to arrange our public lives around terrorism forever, we need to keep the danger in mind as we conduct that business. Recent attack attempts remind us of the potential cost of complacency, but we no longer have the luxury of indulging in sheer ignorance as we did through September 10th, 2001.

Nine years gone, a new generation of Americans are growing up with no memory of September 11th, except for what they learn at school, see on the media or are informed by family.

Yes I do.

weaponofmassdestruction.jpg

Apparently, a weapon of mass destruction was found in Iraq the other day. I heard it from my son last night while we were watching the Super Bowl. The only article that I could find about it was this slightly snarky piece in the United Kingdom’s Daily Mail. Why can’t we get this news from our own news media?

I know. I know. Dumb question.

09 Nov 2009 08:44 am

A mother knows. Especially when she is sitting at her injured son’s bedside.

He was supposed to help her hero son - but all she saw in Maj. Nidal Malik Hasan’s eyes was evil.

The mom of a soldier who received psychiatric treatment from the accused Fort Hood gunman said she was frightened of the psychiatrist from the very beginning of her son’s stay at Walter Reed Medical Center.

“I looked into his eyes, and he scared me,” Cindy Gagnier told the Daily News. “He made some comments to me that made me feel very uncomfortable, and I don’t become uncomfortable very easily.”

This one is a must read.

Photos by Rachel Rodemann · Times Record
A statue of the Greek goddess Hebe, goddess of youth and happiness, is backlit by sun streaming through yellow leaves in front of the Crawford County Courthouse in Van Buren.

Autumn continues in its beauty despite all the ugliness in the world.

The murderous rampage at Fort Hood this past Thursday, committed by an Islamist Army officer who had made his hatred of our country quite apparent, is a stark reminder that we have enemies in our midst who take advantage of the freedom and opportunities our country offers in order to plan and carry out their jihadist attacks.

The response by the media and the political elite to the horrific terror attack on our nations Best class of American was unfortunately, quite predictable.

President Obama, who quickly jumped to conclusions when his friend, Henry Louis Gates was arrested by a white law officer, instructed his shocked fellow Americans to not jump to conclusions about the killing and the killer.

Jules Crittendon suggests that purple hearts should be awarded to the dead and wounded at Fort Hood because they were attacked by a a traitor who should be charged with desertion, treason and terrorism charges. (as well as murder)

Is any of the above very likely to be offically recognized? No. No matter what is learned about his motivation, in all likelihood he will be treated as a murder defendant in either a civilian or a military court … possibly with an insanity or bullying defense such as we’re already seeing explored on his behalf … rather than as a committed jihadi, an unlawful combatant, a terrorist, a deserter who aided and abetted the enemy, and a traitor who took up arms against his nation. It’s a push Republican lawmakers and those Democrats who agree could take up, that would command a lot of public support. Politicization of justice? Tell me that hasn’t happened already in this country. I’d call it a simple demand for justice. We owe it to the dead and the wounded to acknowledge why and under what circumstances they died and bled.

Kevin McCullough at Townhall.com writes about Obama’s apathetic response to the terror at Fort Hood.

In his remarks President Obama called for everyone to remain calm and to not jump to conclusions about the cause, rationale, and motivation behind the shooting incident.

Evidently what President Obama meant was for the average American to disengage their mind from the truth his lying eyes and ears easily showed them.

Within the hour Stephen Hayes reported on “the panel” on Fox News’ Special Report that sources inside the Obama administration’s FBI leadership had confirmed that the investigation was not to be giving any discussion to the possible merits of connecting the shooting at Ft. Hood to terrorism.

Incredible…

The news media immediately sought out the relatives of Major Nidal Malik Hasan to get their response and it was typical. Hasan was a gentle soul said his cousin. He had been harrassed by his fellow soldiers said his aunt.

Hence, the template: America is to blame. We can’t be trusted to come to our own conclusions.

The New York Times followed the template like a ballet dancer practicing her choreography.

Soldiers are violent and the violence they commit in the name of their country can cause their minds to snap. So says Erica Goode of the New York Times.

There is no evidence of terror says the Times.

None at all. Just a shortage of therapists, saith the shriveled old gray lady.

Evan Thomas didn’t express his outrage over the domestic terrorism at Fort Hood, instead he was more concerned that the killer is a Muslim and the right wing will be inflamed.

CAIR brought up the rear.

On Thursday night, CAIR Executive Director Nihad Awad told a news conference the alleged Fort Hood attacker’s motive remained unknown.

“We urge all Americans to remain calm in reaction to this tragic event and to demonstrate once again what is best about America — our nation’s ability to remain unified even in times of crisis,” Awad said. “We urge national political and religious leaders and media professionals to set a tone of calm and unity.

“Unfortunately, based on past experience, we also urge American Muslims, and those who may be perceived to be Muslim, to take appropriate precautions to protect themselves, their families and their religious institutions from possible backlash.” (Rantburg)

J.R. Dunn at the American Thinker explains the role the left has played in our war on terror.

Here is an excerpt:

We know where it led to. We have reached the point where successful programs are being abandoned, where national defense has taken a back seat, and where decent men out to protect their homes and fellow citizens are being targeted for legal sanction. The left has gained a shoddy and partial triumph. Though they could not destroy the despised Bush administration or throw away Iraq, they have the consolation prize of shutting down all those evil programs and betraying the people of Afghanistan. No fall of Saigon or Watergate this time around, but they’ll make do.

Michelle Malkin asks, “Why do we have to read British papers to get Ft. Hood jihadist news?!”

How odd that the U.S. military and the lame stream media haven’t picked up on this very telling fact.

Report: Hasan attended same radical mosque as 9/11 hijackers;

Yet another British publication tells us what the American media will not.

Except Fox.

Sadly, there hasn’t been much news coverage of those killed and injured at Fort Hood. The names were just released by the Department of Defense yesterday but Fox News has a piece on the Americans who were killed.

Crickets chirp at MSNBC.

Nothing here either.

If you look really hard you can find the list at ABC.

Ditto, CBS.

More American troops were killed in Afghanistan today, and still, Barack Obama continues to dither on his decision to send in reinforcements.

Consider his remarks today in Florida at the Naval Air Station in Jacksonville. “I will never rush the solemn decision of sending you into harm’s way”

Forget the three A.M. calls, Obama won’t even answer the call for help in broad daylight.

At least not until the November election. Not the Afghanistan election, the American election. To the Ditherer in Chief, everything is political. Golf. Health care.

Our national security.

Obama’s lack of commitment to our nations’ war strategy is hurting the morale of our troops and is emboldening our adversaries.

Read this article by Elisabeth Bumiller in the New York Times and weep.

Only nine months ago, the Pentagon pronounced itself reassured by the early steps of a new commander in chief. President Obama was moving slowly on an American withdrawal from Iraq, had retained former President George W. Bush’s defense secretary and, in a gesture much noticed, had executed his first military salute with crisp precision.

But now, after nearly a month of deliberations by Mr. Obama over whether to send more American troops to Afghanistan, frustrations and anxiety are on the rise within the military.

A number of active duty and retired senior officers say there is concern that the president is moving too slowly, is revisiting a war strategy he announced in March and is unduly influenced by political advisers in the Situation Room.

Is Obama haunted by the ghost of Mcnamara or does he want to make the conflict in Afghanistan into another Vietnam?

Weep for our noble troops who are wanting of a leader.

“The Mansions of the Lord”
Words by Randall Wallace

To fallen soldiers let us sing
where no rockets fly nor bullets wing
Our broken brothers let us bring
to the mansions of the Lord

No more bleeding no more fight
No prayers pleading through the night
just divine embrace, eternal light
in the mansions of the Lord

Where no mothers cry and no children weep
We will stand and guard tho the angels sleep
All through the ages safely keep the mansions of the Lord
