I heard on the news today that the woman who disappeared in Georgia has now turned up. Her fiance is a very lucky man. I will be very surprised if he ever marries her now.

She got cold feet even though she is thirty two years old and should have known better. I think big weddings are for the young. When my husband and I got married we had a large wedding. (we were both 22) There were three bridal showers, one tea, a party on a lake, a sit-down dinner at the country club, another party and a bridesmaid’s luncheon. It was so much fun and I treasured every minute of them. My only problem as I recall was that I just didn’t have enough time to get the rice bags ready because our wedding took place two weeks after my husband graduated from West Point.

I like this word, “scrum.” There are three different meanings to the word given in the online dictionary Answers.com

scrum (skrŭm) n.
A play in Rugby in which the two sets of forwards mass together around the ball and, with their heads down, struggle to gain possession of the ball.
The mass or formation of players during such a play.
Chiefly British. A disordered or confused situation involving a number of people.intr.v., scrummed, scrum·ming, scrums.
To engage in a scrum.
[Short for SCRUMMAGE.]

Here’s how Hugh Hewitt uses the word…….in a nice collective way…….

Tom DeLay travels with the president on Air Force One today, proving again that the president isn’t panicked by a scrum of media directed by Nancy Pelosi and MoveOn. If there was a serious charge against DeLay, the president would not give him cover, but there is no serious charge and the president is underscoring that in bold strokes.”

The great Laura Ingraham has breast cancer. May she recover quickly from surgery and beat the cancer. She will be in my prayers.

I wrote about our former doctor in this post last week and afterwards did a Google Search on him and there was nothing. So I checked out the European Stars and Stripes online and couldn’t find any articles about him either. So I emailed them and got this sad email yesterday morning.

Dear Ms. Donoho,

I am sorry to tell you that Dr. Baldwin’s remains were found two years later at the train station where his car was found in 2001. Our paper ran two articles about the discovery of the remains (I attached them for you), but it seems that the police were never really able to get to the bottom of what had happened. The article suggests that he committed suicide, but the medical examiner could not make a definite conclusion.

After these articles, it seems that we never did any follow up articles.

I am sorry that I could not tell you about a happier ending.

There is a pretty pond near where my son and daughter-in-law live and this morning early I went outside and saw a flock of ducks flying over. The duck in third place was agressively taking the lead and it seemed to be quacking, “hurry up! hurry up!”

A shame that Bill Frist doesn’t have that kind of energy.

I have been taking care of my eighteen month old grandson this weekend while his parents are out of town. It’s been a hoot! I suppose every grandparent thinks their grandchild is the greatest and most wonderful child in the world but I KNOW that my grandson is!

He is full of questions and boundless energy and now I know why we become mothers when we are young. (anyway, I did)

I hope the cats in the Holy Father’s realm behave themselves a little better than mine have recently. But as I speak my husband is conspiring with my cats against me. They love him a little better than me. I think it is because he is always willing to pet them while I am always running around doing things (like cleaning the kitty litter)

About Bolton of course. This time little Izzy writes about some snipes from a former Bush 41 ambassador.

The state of Ohio has a problem with this man. I guess he feels no pain of conscience when he betrays his party. And what is up with his statement about kitchens???

Yesterday that is. I go out on Monday nights to eat with my parents and various members of our family along with some other members of our church. We are not Catholic but my father went to Catholic school, we sent our children to Catholic School and my husband teaches in a Catholic school. My sister converted to Catholicism and my daughter married a Catholic. So, naturally I feel very close to Catholics and although I love my church I have always felt that our church is closer to the Catholic church in its spirit than any other.

So we all were discussing who we thought would be the next Pope. I said that I hoped it would be Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger because I have been reading such wonderful things about him.

I was home for lunch yesterday when the bells started to ring and am thrilled for the world as well as my Catholic friends.
