The Ugly Distortions of Time Magazine
The above photo is on Time’s online site directly next to their daily poll. Unbelievable. At first I thought it was an advertisement but it’s Time’s own image.
There’s also an ugly article about the recently released Christian, Abdul Rahman.
Condoleeza Rice is a very attractive woman and I find it disgusting that Time Magazine would post such a distorted photo of her on their site.
Despicable.
And for jump-ugly news read this. (It’s doubtful that Time will cover it)
Thanks to Lorie Byrd and commenter, Viking at Polipundit for some clarification. The caricature of Condi Rice is just part of an “illustration” of the Who Are the Most Influential People of 2006 Poll. Still, Condi gets a bad look and they make Hillary look better than she really does.

That isn't a picture, it is an insult. No way can manipulating light or color will give this result. Photo Shop

Not a photo, not a photoshop. It's a cartoon. A snarky cartoon.
Look at Time's poll site. This week, "Heroes and Icons" Cindy Sheehan is there, Bill Clinton (but another President strangely absent), also Angelina Jolie and Steve Nash. What do those two have to do with anything?

This is nothing, just a standard caricature. Don't get so huffy and puffy.

Computer graphics can do some pretty amazing things, and the capabilities are growing exponentially each year. Pretty soon, it will transform all types of entertainment.

Its a Characture drawing....the same as all the rest on that page.....sheeshhh.

As Bill says, it's a character drawing by Jason Seiler, and clearly labeled as an illustration on this webpage: http://www.time.com/time/2006/time100/walkup/
Not Photoshop, not a photo, but just a cartoon as ZZmike says above.

They're all cartoon characters! Let's not get suckered into that kind of overreaction, because it proves the other side has finally gotten to us. Chill. Just let them continue to destroy themselves.

Check the bottom part of my post. I initially thought there was something sinister about the caricature but thanks to a commenter on Polipundit I took another look at it. Just a caricature. But still an especially ugly one if one compares the caricature of Hillary which actually improved on her looks. It can go both ways.

I updated my post and linked here. I still find it to be poor editorial judgement to parse a group caricature and carve out a face for another serious feature. Evidently now they are rotating caricatures. I don't buy it. That's a lot of extra work for soemhting which could have been done more efficiently with standard pics. And there is a lack of editorial seriousness, at best, when one uses caricature within serious editorial content. Times goal would be to get people to take the poll seriously and click it, obviously. There is no advantage in portraying it as a joke.

You people are cracking me up. You can't tell me you haven't giggled at a Bill or Hilary Clinton cartoon.

Thanks Dan. I agree with you. Time's been using Condi's "caricature" ever since March 29th next to the poll icon to draw people into the poll. Why not use Hillary's mug or anyone elses? But the reason why I posted a link in your comments to my post was because I knew that commenters would react as they have. Obviously it was just a caricature but it still was one of the most unflattering of all of them. I am skeptical of their motives.
UPDATED:
Hey, I work around artists all the time and you can't tell me that the artist who did the caricature of Condi Rice doesn't have a liberal outlook. There is always a chance he doesn't but I would be very surprised if that were so. Whether or not he was the one who made the determination to feature Condi's caricature on the poll page or not someone did and I wonder why. I do know that it has been the featured caricature ever since I initially noticed it on March 29th. It could be that they wanted the exact response that they've gotten from some of us or that a caricature of Hillary Clinton would have been too boring or would have made their readers angry.
I don't particularly care for caricatures but I do think the caricatures on the Time Poll are really good. The caricature of Angelina Jolie is really funny although I think the artist was afraid of making Hillary look as ridiculous as he did Condi Rice. As some commenters have stated, she is a big girl and can take care of herself. That is true. I just find it really offensive that Time as well as USA Today have treated her in their editorial content in such a contemptuous manner. There are few American women as accomplished as Condoleeza Rice. She's an amazing human being and one would think that the MSM would take notice of that fact.
UPDATE #2: I discovered the illustrator Jason Seiler's webpage and his caricatures are really quite good. Check them out. He's done Condi before and it is even more heartless. But a guy who does Norman Rockwell can't be all bad.

UPDATE #3: I have recently had an opportunity to be in touch with Jason Seiler and I was totally wrong about him. He is a talented gem of an artist and a very good guy. I am sorry for the words that I wrote about you Jason. Thank you for being kind enough to let me know your thoughts.
