Yesterdays annoucement by former Iranian President Hashemi Rafsanjani that Iran has successfully enriched uranium should be quite alarming to thinking people. The photo above should be enough for civilized governments all over the world to realize that we are dealing with a country gone far around the bend.
What kind of drug will it take for the leaders of sane Western governments to calm themselves into a serene state of mind so that they can continue in their delusion that Iran is enriching uranium for peaceful means?
TEHRAN, Iran - Iran has successfully enriched uranium for the first time, a major development in its fuel cycle technology, news agencies quoted former President Hashemi Rafsanjani as saying Tuesday.
Current President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad added that Iran “will soon join the club of countries with nuclear technology.”
The U.N. Security Council has demanded that Iran stop all uranium enrichment activity by April 28. Iran has rejected the demand, saying it has a right to develop the process.
The comments by the Iranian officials came as the head of the U.N. nuclear watchdog agency, Mohammed ElBaradei, was due to visit Tehran this week for talks on the nuclear standoff.
Officials with his International Atomic Energy Agency have said he is hoping to win at least partial concessions from Iran. IAEA inspectors are currently in Iran visiting two key facilities.
Rafsanjani’s comment, carried by the Kuwait News Agency. was the first disclosure that Iran had successfully enriched uranium since February, when it began research at its enrichment facility in the town of Natanz.
Rafsanjani did not disclose the amount of uranium that Iran had enriched through the facility’s 164 centrifuges, but he said it would put the country in a good position for ElBaradei’s visit.
“When ElBaradei arrives in Iran, he will face new circumstances,” Rafsanjani said, according to KUNA.
“Iran has put into operation the first unit of 164 centrifuges, has injected (uranium) gas and has reached industrial production,” the news agency quoted him as saying.
Gina Cobb tells us not to worry. Until Iran’s nuclear weapons are actually used in a major city near you, it’s not your concern. If you were to get involved in the issue right now, you’d just be a jingoistic imperialist.
Alexandra von Maltzan at All Things Beautiful warns us that we are out of time.
I will predict that the MSM who can’t walk and chew gum at the same time will give short shrift to this chilling annoucement. It would interrupt their Bush Lied coverage.
That is, unless they can find an anti-Bush angle in there somewhere.

Tbis doesn't bother me any more than the Soviets having 1000's of nuclear weapons during the cold war. I knew that we would attack if the situation called for it. Same with Iran. This world is cruel and IF they look the wrong way we make them pay.
