The family farewells are almost done. My brother is leaving very soon for his deployment to the war zone. The 365 day countdown has started for our son and will soon start for my brother.
They (along with all the troops) will be doing their best to represent our country to the citizens of Iraq.
Unfortunately, there are some in Congress letting down the troops and the American people daily with their utterances. Bill Frist, as always, continues to disappoint.
U.S. Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist said Monday that the Afghan guerrilla war can never be won militarily and called for efforts to bring the Taliban and their supporters into the Afghan government.
The Tennessee Republican said he had learned from briefings that Taliban fighters were too numerous and had too much popular support to be defeated by military means…
Sen. Mel Martinez, a Republican from Florida accompanying Frist, said negotiating with the Taliban was not “out of the question” but that fighters who refused to join the political process would have to be defeated.
“A political solution is how it’s all going to be solved,” he said
Frist tried to amend his statement later but the damage had already been done.
When my daughters were younger I volunteered to coach a cheerleading squad. I had never been a cheerleader myself but knew enough about it from my sister who was a cheerleader almost from her first day in the cradle through college. Plus, I knew how to organize.
Besides practicing cheers, I taught the girls a little about the game of football and how to recognize the plays and what kind of cheers to cheer when their team was about to score a touchdown. They also learned the kind of cheers to cheer when they were losing.
When the cheerleaders were on the field they paid attention, cheered for their team, and never made the team look weak.
When is Bill Frist going to learn that he is not the football coach and cannot call the plays? He’s not the head referee either but, instead, is supposed to be a member of President Bush’s team.
I don’t understand why Bill Frist has, from his first day as Majority Leader in the Senate, been such a weak leader. In an attempt to paint himself as reasonable, moderate and wise while in Afghanistan recently, he brushed aside the Bush administrations war policy and adopted the Rodney King “can’t we all get along” stance. I’ve had it with that man. I don’t care if Dennis Hastert resigns or not. I’d rather see him stick in there but Frist can go. He needs to go.
The troops deserve better from their leaders here at home. They also deserve better from bloggers. Come on Ace. Don’t jump from the frying pan into the fire. Voting for Democrats will hurt our troops and our war on Islamic terror. Frist is an idiot, yes. But don’t compound the problem by throwing up your hands and walking away.

Is Bill Frist on DRUGS? Or is he just an idiot? Maybe both to say such a stupid, stupid thing.
The first priority should be to WIPE out the poppy fields (I know doggone well we have the technology - we just need the will to use it) and do it in such a way that they cannot be replanted for oh - say 10 years!
THEN we should send in a major force to achieve a trip to "paradise" for the rest of the Taliban scum.
The poppy fields are financing the insanity in Afghanistan and Karzai needs our help in combating this resurgent Taliban menace. So wiping out those poppy field - from the air of course - should have always been a major priority.

I agree Gayle. Frist disappoints it seems, everytime he opens his mouth.
