I’m weary this evening and yet, hopeful. The Democrats managed to win the House of Representatives and most likely, if George Allen doesn’t pull it out, the Senate.
This one hurts. I forced myself to watch the results last night, staying up late, my heart breaking for our troops. This defeat hurts the U.S. Military. It hurts the morale of the military to read headlines like this:
Voter rebuke for Bush, the war and the right
And to hear Nancy Pelosi say this…… the war in Iraq is “not a war to be won but a situation to be solved.”
Okay, Nancy Bonaparte. Reading Sun Tzu are you?
Unbelievable that the American people could think so little of those who have given so much.
I read here that the election was merely a typical result in the sixth year of a two-term President. But this is a two-term president leading a war.
And when I heard on the news that Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld is resigning it made me sick to my stomach. That was the most disheartening news of the day.
I’ve been around the people who encountered Rummy at the Pentagon when he first took office. When I heard that many of the Clinton appointed, perfumed princes had been treated abruptly by Rumsfeld when they tried to “deal” with him I couldn’t help but smile.
It’s true. Rumsfeld didn’t initially have a friendly reception from the military when many of the generals heard about his plans to streamline the Army. The Defense Secretary threatened many plans, hopes and dreams of ambitious generals who wanted to be the next Eisenhower.
So the left and the MSM courted the Batistes and the Eatons, and these retired generals did all they could to create the perception that the war in Iraq is a bust when it is anything but.
Instead of fading away, the generals instead, deliberately created the impression that our troops and ranking officers were being ignored and mistreated by Rumsfeld.
Republicans should have won easily last night but they didn’t (because of their own neglect of conservative Republican values) so now we, who are for winning the war in Iraq and protecting our country from terrorism have at the helm of Congress, an old lady who has less sense than a goose but is two breaths away from the White House. Nancy Pelosi….Speaker of the House.
It was good that Vice President Cheney went hunting yesterday. He and President Bush need to consult with each other of course, but in separate, undisclosed locations.
It’s Giuliani time baby.

Laura:
You said a lot of things on my heart too. I am still shocked about the election, but not because of Taxes, spending, immigration, etc.; but because of the troops. While you have a child in harms way now, I may have one there in the next few years. I can't imagine what you are going through.
The fickle nature of voters gets to me. It is the one thing that worries me the most.
I have my thoughts here.
