So now the feminized White House Press Corps is all in a twitter over the fact that First Lady Laura Bush had a cancerous growth removed from her right shin. They are upset that she kept it a private matter. If Mrs. Bush had announced that she had a squamous cell carcinoma removed on the very day it happened one wonders how the mob at the White House would have reacted.

Would we have had a daily press vigil awaiting the results of the biopsy?

Would we be reading articles painting Mrs. Bush as a hypochondriacal, attention seeker or would there have been a multitude of breathless editorials, comparing Mrs. Bush’s nickel sized skin cancer to Castro’s approaching non-cancerous (according to Chavez) death?

Would E.J. Dionne Jr. have editorialized that the cancer found on Mrs. Bush’s right shin is really a metaphor of the sickness of the Republican Right?

Would they have dropped little hints that Mrs. Bush’s right shin was really a cover for a face lift?

You can’t win for losing with that crass crowd.

To those on the left, every illness of any kind must become a cause célèbre.

Betty Ford admitted to alcoholism and Breast Cancer while she was First Lady and she immediately became an icon of the popular victim culture. Nancy Reagan also announced that she had Breast Cancer. While it surely must have enlightened some women and encouraged them to have mammograms it doesn’t mean that every First Lady had to follow in their footsteps.

I don’t recall Hillary Clinton ever admitting to any health problem while she was in the White House. She did promote her sad-little-wife-cheated-on-by-hubby victim status politically by running for the Senate from New York. Poor Rick Lazio didn’t have a chance because Hillary used him as a virtual, subliminal, Bill Clinton punching bag.

If Bubba behaves himself throughout her upcoming Presidential run Hillary won’t have a chance. She counts on the sympathy vote.

Laura Bush, being a mature adult, doesn’t require that kind of attention. She very quietly makes her contribution to our country by promoting issues that are helpful to Americans and of others throughout the world.

Just take a look at her recent itinerary.

Laura Bush’s causes and interests have been consistent….

Education, reading, libraries, teaching, art, her initiative to help Muslim women and children in Afghanistan and other countries, history, Breast Cancer awareness, The White House Summit on Malaria are just a few of Mrs. Bush’s interests.

Shame on the catty women of the White House Press corps.
