There’s just something about Al Gore that has rubbed me the wrong way for years. He’s an odd duck. Does he still take four or five showers a day? How does he offset the use of all that water and heat? Does he still drink a lot of tea? Is it Sun Tea or does he use heat to brew it?

Lorie Byrd has an informative and amusing post up today on Townhall and at Wizbang on Gore and his “carbon offsets.” In other words, Gore pays others to use less energy so he can use more.

Is that not similar to the medieval practice of rich and powerful sinners buying indulgences from the Church in order to receive forgiveness for their sins? Or the practice of wealthy Yankee men during the American Civil War of paying others to take their place in the army?

Al Gore must find it very convenient to have his energy cake and eat it too. He doesn’t seem willing to share with others. In fact, the Gores have been known for their stinginess for quite a long time. Wasn’t it during the 2000 presidential election that it was discovered through the release of the Gores federal taxes that Al and Tipper had given only three hundred or so dollars to charity?

Wasn’t Gore just caught trying to board a flight the other day without going through security like all the other plebeians?

Gore must be running for president again. He’s got to put that arrogance to work on something more important than his Chicken Little-Sky is Falling campaign.

Here is a choice morsel from Lorie’s article….

My personal favorite offset idea is one I call the Aqua Net Offset. This offset would allow chicks with big hair (and select male news reporters) to pay others not to use aerosol hairspray, thereby offsetting their own excessive consumption. Just consider the impact of the Donald Trump offset alone! It might reduce greenhouse gases more than all of Al Gore’s carbon offsets combined.

I know my late grandmother would have taken out after Gore with the pointy part of her umbrella if he had ever tried to take away her Aqua Net.
