I was pretty young back during the Vietnam War and didn’t take much notice of it until a very close family friend was killed forty five days after deploying. That I will never forget. Butch Cecil’s letters to us didn’t arrive until the week we learned he had been mortally injured. He wrote about the fear of battle, watching buddies getting picked off right next to him and the lack of water. I will never forget one line in his letter, Every time you take a drink of cold water, think of me.

After Butch’s death I started to follow the war in Vietnam much more closely. I will never forget watching the television news as Walter Cronkite and company condemned the war. I remember thinking at the time, why are they dishonoring the troops? Back during those shameful seasons of hippies, war protesters and politicians washing their hands of responsibility, at least the Congress never cut off funds to the troops. Not until the last helicopter left. Then, the real bloodbath began.

Pelosi and Reid’s surrender bill, which tied military funding to a timetable for withdrawal was nothing but a blatant attempt to try to stop the surge to victory but thankfully, President Bush vetoed their shameful surrender bill yesterday.

Pelosi and Reid are making the French look good.

Joe Biden threatens to shove the veto down the President’s throat. Democrats really aren’t very nice people.
