The media/Democrats (which means just about every channel on television) have been playing a game of Depress and Demoralize the opposition in their attacks on Republican Vice Presidential nominee, Gov. Sarah Palin but what they have done in reality is to reveal their own base, churlish, crass and degenerate natures.

They are going after female grocery shoppers, with this despicable issue of Us Weekly and the new allegation about an extramarital affair in The National Enquirer.

These magazines are next to the check-out at the grocery store and depending on how long the line is some people pick them up, thumb through them and put them back. Or they buy them.

The stuff in the Enquirer stems from the family feud over Sarah Palin’’s sister and her trooper husband and some gossip. Nothing proven. It’’s not meant to be truth, just allegations to cast a shadow on Palin’s candidacy.

At least Palin’s getting good press in Britain. Check out the beautiful photos.

McCain’s Senior campaign adviser, Steve Schmidt is putting the brakes on all the media questions about the vetting process.

This nonsense is over,” he said. “Her selection came after a six-month long rigorous vetting process where her extraordinary credentials and exceptionalism became clear. This vetting controversy is a faux media scandal designed to destroy the first female Republican nominee for vice president of the United States who has never been a part of the old boys’ network that has come to dominate the news establishment in this country.”

It’s obvious that the handwringing wasn’t over concern about John McCain but instead worry about Obama’s chances.

I’m looking forward to Gov. Sarah Palin’s speech tonight and will blog my response here. The Anchoress has been blogging furiously all day. McCain’s selection of Sarah Palin has inspired me to blog more regularly. That is one anecdotal measure of the excitement over Sarah Palin.

UPDATE: That was quick. The McCain Campaign has threatened legal action against the Enquirer and its rumor mongering….

“The smearing of the Palin family must end. The allegations contained on the cover of the National Enquirer insinuating that Gov. Palin had an extramarital affair are categorically false. It is a vicious lie,” said McCain senior adviser Steve Schmidt.

“The efforts of the media and tabloids to destroy this fine and accomplished public servant are a disgrace. The American people will reject it.”

“Sen. McCain and Gov. Palin look forward to discussing the issues that Americans care about, fixing broken government, creating jobs, making our country energy independent and securing the peace for the next generation by bringing the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan to a victorious end,” said Schmidt.

“Legal action will be considered with regard to this disgraceful smear.”
