When we moved to Fairfax, Virginia in 1992 our family was looking forward to living close to history in our nation’s capital and my husband was heading to work at the pentagon working for the Joint Staff. One afternoon someone knocked on the door and when I opened it a man standing at the door flashed a badge at me, claiming that he worked for the FBI.
I remember being a little shocked but I pushed right back, asking him to let me see his badge again. He did. He started asking me questions about a family that had just moved into the neighborhood. By the time a few questions had been asked it was obvious that he was asking me questions about my husband and our family.
Whoops!
My husband had to have a new security clearance working in his new position with the Joint Staff and the doofus FBI guy had knocked on the wrong door.
All through the years of my husbands’ military career he had to provide information about our family, friends, and associates for increasingly sensitive and higher level security clearances. We kept a list of every place we ever lived with addresses, phone numbers, or any kind of association we had joined or of any questionable person or persons who had approached us in any place.
That Barack Obama could pass a secret, or top secret security clearance is very questionable.
George H. Whittman lays out all the details here.
To begin, the clearance applicant would have to complete a detailed personal history form that includes, if necessary, government access to all health and education files. This is the starting point of all security investigations. Top Secret clearance involves a field investigation rather than the Secret version that is usually limited to a “name check” that is a basic police and public information file review. For the TS clearance an investigator will visit the home neighborhoods and work place sites of the applicant in search of supportive and/or derogatory references.
You can betcha the arrogant Barack Obama won’t be filling out any security clearances anytime soon.

His friends in Congress will grant him special permissions. Wouldn't it be neat if members had to really get clearances. How many would get them.

And yet, he'll have unparalleled access! He couldn't even complete the standard I-9 that is required of ALL new employees in both the private and public sectors.
