When Maine walked out the front door to return to college this morning she made a shocking discovery……..outside on the porch was Captain……..Meowing loudly to get in.

As sad as Maine was to leave Amos she was even more shocked to discover Captain the Courageous, or Captain Lion Paws, or Captain the Wonder Cat (as he is termed at different times) outside the house………. for that is a big No No.

After Captain discovered our family in the winter of 1994 we knew we had a dandy of a cat. But we made a terrible mistake. We had him declawed. We took away his ability to protect himself if he happened to get out the front door. And last night he did.

Family we hadn’t seen in a long time came over late last night. In our excitement Captain slipped out the door without anyone noticing. None of us did. Not until this morning and Maine opened that door did we know that Captain had escaped.

Captain, Sabby, Amos and Asta celebrate National Bad Cat Day often. They think they are entitled by federal law or something.

Maybe it’s feline law. Normally they just do stuff like knocking cans of coke off tables………… or rattling paper in the middle of the night to wake us up………… or pounding on the hall door loudly to make us think someone is knocking.

But, no, Captain had to really outdo all the cats last night. He’s gotten out before but we ran after him and caught him before he could really get into doing whatever cats who sneak out of the house do……..which must have really pissed him off.

So Captain got his revenge last night but sadly he got hurt. National Bad Cat Day should be banned, I tell you! But how? These are superior beings we are dealing with. They are smarter than us!

They could really teach the CIA some things for sure.

Taking these photos of Captain revealed to me that he was exhausted………..really tired. As I tried to pet him and offered him some food I became increasingly worried. We examined him and discovered some bites near his neck.

He tried to cooperate for the photo shoot but eventually turned away, grumping at us. Sabby ran over and started meowing loudly and hissing. Was fussing at Captain for his scruffy fur and outdoor smell.

We took Captain to the emergency hospital and were there for four hours. He had fever and an infection was starting. But the vet administered some good meds and by the time we got him home this evening he was bounding to his food and water. Now he is getting that sleep he missed last night. No more overnights outside Captain.

The 94th Feline Fest is hosted by pages turned and there are a multitude of cats celebrating National Bad Cat Day.
